The Tarocco Blood Orange is known as the sweetest and most flavorful orange of all three varieties (Moro, Sanguinelli and Tarocco) of Blood Oranges. The Tarocco’ s soluble sugar numbers range from 11.7 to 13.5 2 to 3 points higher than that of the Moro variety. All three varieties can be traced to the hilly areas and plains surrounding the Mt. Etna volcano in Sicily, and the trees have been easily adapted to inland valleys of California and the desert areas. Although Blood Orange trees grown in California’ s Central Valley produce fruit with the best interior color, the Tarocco variety is never very red. Its segments look more like a colorful sunrise than a dark, dark red. But what they lack in color, Tarocco Blood Oranges more than make up for in sweet, rich flavor!
