Description:
Mandarinquats are a hybrid of a Kumquat and a Mandarin. Like the Kumquat, Mandarinquats can be eaten whole, peel and all! The skin is crunchy and sweet to balance the tart flesh. They do tend to have small scattered seeds.
The juice is tart but not quite as tart as a Kumquat. The rind is slightly sweet to complement the tartness of the juice. Substitute lime or lemon juice to bring a new kick to dishes.
Slice thinly on a Mandolin and put in salads, pair with fine cheeses, or bake into or onto cakes. Try in purees, or sauces with rich meats to complement the flavors. Mandarinquats are also phenomenal for making into marmalade; experiment with complementary flavors such as Mandarinquat and Vanilla Bean.
